Volvo High Mileage Club

"It's a pretty popular club considering you have to drive 100,000 miles to get there"

says the cover of the form you'll pick up at your local Volvo dealership. If you own a Volvo with more than 100,000 miles on it, Volvo Cars of North America will send you a nice badge and a letter of appreciation for free. You just have to pick up the form at a Volvo dealership parts department. Call ahead, sometimes they are out.

The form is simple, requiring only your name/address, car model & year, VIN, and mileage. In about a month you'll receive a different badge for every 100,000 mile increment that you have passed. Note: You don't have to be the original owner of the car.

The badges are nice, yet come with cheap sticky foam on the back. I and many others believe that these badges should be attched to the grills of our Volvos. In order to accomplish this I removed the sticky tape and glued a bracket with machine screws onto the back. I didn't use just any glue, I used a product called "J.B. Weld", which is a COLD WELD epoxy compound. Suppsedly cracked engine blocks have been repaired with this stuff. It seems pretty sturdy.

UPDATE! - April 2, 1996
The J.B. Weld did not work on my 1800. But it's ok with my 240. It has to do with the grill slats being horizontal on the 1800. I have a few more ideas to try out - and I'll post the results.

UPDATE! - June 15, 1996
Last month, I reattached the badges to my 1800 using some brass bolts. I had to drill holes in the badges (through two of the 0's). The bolt heads are roughly the same size as the zero's I had to drill through so it still looks pretty good... The badges have now been on for a month and they work well.

UPDATE! - January 28, 1997
All of the badges are still attached and holding just fine. The J.B. Weld method workd great for verticle grills, and the brass bolt method works great for horizontal grills.

UPDATE! - December 15, 2000
One of my wife's badge's fell off ! the JB Weld held for 4 years. Ironically, we just moved to Texas and we now live 15 miles from the home of the inventor of JB Weld!

Also… Does anyone know if Volvo is still sending out high mileage badges since the Fjord takeover?

Another method for attaching these badges is outlined on this home page:
